Kronoscript Guide

An A–Z of everything you can do here — what each feature is, how to use it, and whether it's free or premium. Type to search.

Features marked Premium are part of the paid plans. During the beta, some may be open to everyone.

A

About

What Kronoscript is, who builds it, what it costs, and the current version. In the footer and the menu.

Acceptable Use

The short list of what's not allowed (sexual content, illegal activity, harassment, spam, copyright abuse). Breaking it can mean content removal or a suspension.

Acquaintances

The widest "people you know" visibility tier. A story set to Acquaintances is seen by everyone at that tier or closer.

AI Assistant — "Help me remember" Premium

Blank page? In the composer's AI Drafting group tap Help me remember — it reads your context (people, places, years) and offers personalized memoir questions; click one to drop it into your draft.

AI Credits Premium

AI features (assistant, polish, photo restoration) draw on a small metered credit balance — a free daily allowance, with paid top-up packs past it. On a Family plan the whole family can draw from a shared pool.

AI Photo Restoration Premium

Repair scratches and fading on an old photo while keeping the real faces. Open a photo and choose Restore; you approve the result.

AI Polish Premium

A light grammar-and-typo pass that keeps your voice — you approve every change. In the composer tap Polish my writing. It never rewrites your story for you.

Audio recording Premium

Record your voice onto a story. Composer → Record Voice; the clip plays inside the story and your book.

B

Badges

Quiet milestones you earn automatically as your story grows — your first story, your first connection, words written, comments, days you've returned (Genesis, Prologue, Chapter One, and on…). Nothing to set up: they collect on your profile as you hit each one, a gentle nudge to keep writing.

Biographies Premium

Don't just write your own life — tell someone else's. Make a profile for a parent, a grandparent, or even a historical figure you admire, and write their story (or, on a Family plan, post as them through a managed account). A great way to start when your own page feels blank.

Block someone

Stop seeing a person and stop them contacting you. From their profile choose Block — they can no longer message, comment on, or request to connect with you, and you drop off each other's feeds.

Book Premium

Read your whole life as a real bound book — stories flow across cream pages, grouped into chapters by year, with a 3-D page-turn. Long paragraphs split across pages (continuing on the next leaf) so no line is ever clipped — a true bound-book look. Open Book from the menu.

Book chapters / Organize Premium

Your stories group into chapters by year by default. In Book, tap Organize chapters to rename, reorder, regroup, auto-create by year, and save multiple arrangements.

C

Channels

Editorial, magazine-style spaces for themed articles (a neighbourhood's history, a craft, a passion), set in newspaper-style type. Reading any channel is free.

Comments & replies

Reply under any story you can see, and reply to other comments. Comments are how the people who were there add the part you missed.

Connections

The people you add, sorted into Acquaintances, Friends, and Family — your visibility tiers key off these. Add people from the network sidebar or the Friends page.

Crowdsource a memory Premium

Invite the people who were there to write their version of a shared story, so one memory carries several voices.

D

Dictation — speak your story Premium

Talk and we type. Composer → Dictate to text; your speech is transcribed into the editor. Also on the Quick Story box.

Discussion Forum

A members-only board where the Kronoscript Team posts topics (Support · How-to · Ideas · Bugs) and answers your comments. Post a question, idea, or bug report; the team replies in the thread (no email — check back). Linked in the footer + menu.

Drafts

Not ready to publish? Save as Draft in the composer and finish later from My Drafts. Drafts never appear in any feed.

E

Estimated dates

Unsure exactly when something happened? Tick Estimated by the date so the timeline shows it's approximate.

Export my story

Download your stories as a document (.docx) any time from the user menu. Your words are always yours to take with you.

F

Family

The closest visibility tier — seen only by the people in your innermost circle.

Family Chat Premium

Group conversation scoped to one of your Groups — a private place for the family to talk around the stories.

Family Groups Premium

A shared space (family, friends, or mixed) with its own feed, shared tree, and combined book. You can be in several overlapping groups; non-premium members you add get a read-only view.

Family Tree Premium

A drag-and-drop bubble tree of relatives and people profiles, your direct bloodline drawn in gold. Add parents, spouses, children, siblings; link bubbles to stories. Reading someone else's tree is free.

FAQ

Quick answers to the most common questions. In the footer.

Friends

The middle visibility tier, between Acquaintances and Family.

I

Inline photos Premium

Place a photo inside the prose with text wrapping around it, instead of the gallery strip free posts get. Add an image in the composer, then set its position and wrap.

Invite someone

Bring in the people who were there — by email or a share link. Invitations are free, and people you invite can join and reply on the free tier.

J

Just a thought

A quick, undated jotting — not a dated life event. Toggle Just a thought in the composer (or the quick box) and it stays out of your timeline and book, living only in your feed and your Thoughts. For the fleeting stuff you still want to keep.

L

Layout styles — Journal / Book / Standard Premium

Typeset a story like a newspaper article (Journal), a book chapter (Book), or the usual card (Standard). Choose it under Layout & publishing options in the composer.

Location

An optional place on any story — free text, no GPS. Shows under the date.

M

Memory prompts

A gentle rotating prompt in the sidebar ("Where did you live in 1998?", "A meal you still remember") to nudge the next story out of you. Free.

Messages & Inbox

Private one-to-one messages with people you're connected to — open the chat bubble in the corner or the Inbox. (Group chat lives in Family Groups, Premium.)

Music on a story

Add a song link to a story so a memory carries its soundtrack. Paste the link in the composer's details. Free.

N

Notifications

The bell tells you when someone comments, replies, mentions you, sends or accepts a connection, or there's group activity. Read/unread is tracked; no email spam.

O

Only Me

The private visibility setting — a story only you can see. Good for notes you're not ready to share.

P

People Profiles Premium

Cards for people who aren't on Kronoscript — a grandparent, a late friend — so you can write about them, tag them in stories and photos, and place them on your family tree.

Photos

Attach photos to any story — paste or drop them into the editor. Free posts show a gallery strip; premium places them inline with text wrap.

Premium plans

The core — writing, sharing, reading — is free forever. Personal ($10/month) adds the craft: inline photos, premium typography, audio & video, AI help, your family tree, people profiles, the book. Family ($35/month) covers up to six people plus the shared archive. Monthly, cancel anytime. See the plans.

Print / Download PDF Premium

From Book mode, Download PDF exports your whole book — one leaf per page, in book format — to keep or print. (Choose "Save as PDF" in the dialog.)

Private storylines Premium

A completely private space you co-author with one person — invite them by email, write multiple stories together, and nothing is ever published or shown to anyone else.

Profile

Your public page: name, profile photo, a cover / background image for your profile card, and details (birth date, birthplace, current location, gender, nationalities). Each detail has its own visibility flag — you decide who sees it (everyone, friends, family, or no one). Set it all in Settings → Edit profile.

Public

The widest visibility — anyone can see the story.

Q

Quick Story

The fast box at the top of your feed for a short memory — type it, pick who sees it, post. For the full editor (title, layout, AI), use New full story.

R

Reactions

Tap to react on any story you can see. Five kinds: ❤️ Heart, 👍 Thumbs up, ⭐ Awesome, ✓ I was there, and 😢 Sad — hover to see who left which. Free.

Report content

See something against the rules? Report a post, comment, or account and it goes to an admin for review. From the item's menu choose Report.

Reset password

From Settings, request a reset link by email. It needs a verified email and the link expires in 24 hours.

S

Search

Find people, stories, and features from the search box — it respects visibility, so you only see what you're allowed to.

Seasons Premium

Group people and time into contexts ("school years", "the London chapter") so a life reads in seasons, not a flat list. (Formerly "Eras".)

Settings

Edit your profile, manage privacy and online-status, verify your email, reset your password, and delete your account.

Start here

The getting-started page — how Kronoscript works, the goal, and your three-step checklist. In the footer and menu.

T

Tagging people

Tag members and people profiles in a story or on a photo — or just type @name in the text. Tagged members can reply with their side.

Thoughts

The running feed of your "Just a thought" notes — the undated jottings that stay out of your timeline and book. Switch to the Thoughts view on your timeline.

Time Capsule Premium

Write something now — words, voice, or video — to be delivered to someone (or several people) on a future date. Start from Time Capsule in the menu: choose who and when, then write it; you can also fold it into your own story later.

Tips (Ko-fi)

Kronoscript is ad-free. To help beyond a subscription, there's a Ko-fi tip jar in the sidebar.

Translate

Tap Translate on a post to read it (and its comments) in your language. It's cached so it's instant next time.

V

Verify email

Confirm your email from Settings. A verified email lets you reset your password and is needed for a few features.

Video recording Premium

Record or upload a video onto a story from the composer's Multimedia group. It embeds in the story and your book.

Visibility tiers

Every story has an audience you choose: Public · Acquaintances · Friends · Family · Only Me. Change it any time.

W

Working index

Your private year-by-year staging grid for organising your story — only you can see it. Nothing here is shown to anyone until you choose to share it.
